We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teacher Aides for Elementary and Middle School Level to provide individualized support to a student with special needs in an educational setting. The ideal candidate will assist the student throughout the school day to ensure safety, engagement, and success in learning activities.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct support to the assigned student during classroom activities, transitions, and other school routines.
• Assist with personal care needs, including toileting and hygiene, in a respectful and professional manner.
• Monitor and manage the student’s safety, including preventing elopement (running away) and ensuring the student remains in designated areas.
• Implement strategies and accommodations as directed by the teacher and support team.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for the student.
• Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the student’s progress and needs.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (additional training in special education preferred).
• Experience working with children with special needs is a plus.
• Ability to assist with personal care tasks in a professional and compassionate manner.
• Strong communication skills and patience.
• Ability to remain alert and responsive to ensure student safety.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and assist with mobility as needed.
• Ability to respond quickly in situations where the student may attempt to leave the supervised area.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS:

In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.
